On April 5, Star Wars: Force for Change launched its four-week campaign sponsored by CrowdRise in support of four nonprofits, including the American Red Cross.
Thanks to the donations from the Star Wars community, and the match from Star Wars: Force for Change almost $200,000 was raised through CrowdRise to support Red Cross Disaster Relief efforts across the country. These funds enable the Red Cross to respond to large disasters, such as the recent Houston area floods where the Red Cross deployed more than 2,300 volunteers and staff, served more than 108,000 meals and snacks, distributed more than 234,000 relief items (rakes, shovels, work gloves and comfort kits), and provided more than 1,600 overnight shelter stays.
The flooding in the Houston area is only one example of the nearly 66,000 disasters the Red Cross responds to each year—big and small. From home fires to tornadoes to hurricanes, the Red Cross depends on critical resources from corporate donors and volunteers to help people when they need it most. We are extremely thankful for these donations as we work to continue the Red Cross mission.
May the Force be with you!
