Duracell and Lucasfilm, in anticipation of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is supporting the healing power of imaginative play with a donation of one million batteries to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals nationwide. To launch its new holiday campaign, Duracell released an all-new 60-second commercial, “How the Rebels Saved Christmas,” featuring young patients forging an epic Star Wars duel while delivering a battery-powered toy to another patient’s hospital room.
On December 8th, Duracell joined forces with Lucasfilm and Star Wars: Force for Change to transform Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) into a galactic playground. After joining Star Wars characters for Jedi training, patients and their families were equipped with Hasbro lightsabers, powered by Duracell, to tap into the healing power of imagination. The action-packed day also featured bedside visits from fan-favorite characters including R2-D2 and Stormtroopers, as well as advanced screening of a new episode of Star Wars Rebels. The day ended in an epic battle across the CHLA Skybridge, closing down Sunset Boulevard, where newly appointed CHLA patient Padawans tested their new Jedi skills as they lead the charge against Darth Vader and his Stromtroopers.
Duracell’s donation of 1 million batteries will power toys at 170 Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals nationwide, including CHLA, just in time for the holidays.
“Our patients were thrilled Duracell hosted an epic Star Wars experience, reminding them to find the ‘Force’ within themselves as they heal,” said Dawn Wilcox, Vice President Corporate Partnerships of CHLA.
A big thank you to the local 501st, Rebel Legion, Droid Builder’s fan groups for donating their time and characters to this event.
